Thief targets Houston restaurant 3 times in 4 months, damaging property, stealing liquor, owner says
HOUSTON – A restaurant owner in the Museum District says his business has been burglarized multiple times in the past few months, resulting in property damage and theft totaling nearly $50,000.
“It’s just one thing after another,” said owner Daniel Wolfe.
Wolfe, the owner and executive chef of City Cellars HTX, says he’s had enough.
His restaurant on Binz Street has been hit by a burglar three times in four months.
“It’s getting ridiculous,” he said.
The burglaries were all filmed.
On April 21, security footage shows a man smashing the front window. He then goes to the back office to rummage through cabinets and put items in his backpack.
“It was about $35,000 in damages,” Wolfe said.
Wolfe says the same person returned on June 23 and August 19. The thief forced open the back door and went straight to the bar, climbing over shelves and counters.
“He took, from what we counted, 16 bottles of alcohol. We know one thing; he likes Tequila. Every time he comes in he steals 5 bottles of Casamigos, a few bottles of Don Julio and Patron” , did he declare.
Wolfe filed a report each time and said the Houston Police Department was taking no action to protect small businesses from continued crime.
“We showed them that, and they won’t even take that as proof. Scan it for fingerprints or nothing,” he said.
Wolfe says the police haven’t launched an investigation.
