Starbucks Japan’s new Melon Frappuccino is part of a pun-themed Japanese dessert menu

There is a phrase in Japanese, yori dori midori, which describes a happy situation where you have a number of attractive options to choose from. Coincidentally, midori is also how you say “green” in Japanese, and so Starbucks Japan combines the two possible meanings in its Yori Dori Midori campaign, giving us several kinds of green-colored tasty things to choose from.

As always, the star of the show is a new seasonal Frappuccino, this time called Le Melon de Melon. However, there are actually two melon flavors in the drink. At the very bottom of the cup, you will find a sauce made from orange melon pulp. Next comes the milky base of the Frappuccino, embellished with green melon juice. Above the rim, you’ll find swirls of melon whipped cream and, at the very top, a drizzled green melon sauce.

Of course, they can’t call it the Yori Dori Midori campaign if you only have one option. If you want to skip the hybrid nature of a dessert drink and just have a simple dessert, Starbucks offers two new types of matcha green tea candy, matcha almond milk mousse and a matcha white chocolate scone. Matcha’s flavor comes from the tea leaves grown with compost made from Starbucks coffee bean dragées, so you could say these are second-generation Starbucks desserts.

Starbucks will also offer special green mugs and tumblers as shown in the picture above. In fact, it looks like there’s a kiwi pie or something similar in the bottom center of the collage. Starbucks hasn’t officially said anything about it, so we’ll just have to cross our fingers that it materializes by the time the Melon Frappuccino goes on sale June 1.
