CFC continues to dominate the fistball league

Cohen Fistball Club (CFC) continued to dominate the Bank Windhoek Fistball League when they recently won the third round in Swakopmund.

Victory for CFC 1 secures their participation in the National League A qualifiers. Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) A and Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) A won the U/16 and U/13 categories.

In the final, CFC 1 starts strong and wins the first set. After changing sides, SFC 1 took advantage of CFC 1’s defensive weaknesses to equalize and, like in the preliminary round, inflict another set defeat on CFC 1.

CFC 1 go up a notch in the third and fourth sets and beat SFC 1 3-1. Nevertheless, SFC 1 picked up 10 crucial points in the championship chase, and catapulted themselves from fifth to third place in the standings.

In the semi-final between CFC 1 and SKW 3 – the defending champions – CFC 1 left nothing to chance and won 2-0. It was close in the second semi-final between SFC 1 and CFC 2. However, SFC 1 qualified for the final with a 2-1 victory.

The results of the match in Group A were unexpected. Underdogs SFC 2 caused a major upset by beating record champions SKW 1 by 2-0, SFC 2’s first victory over SKW 1 since the league was formed in 1967.

SKW 1 could only win one set in the remaining two encounters and ended up in fourth place in the preliminary round. In the end, SKW 1 placed fifth and six points behind their teammates SKW 3, who sit fourth in the standings.

With only one league round remaining, it will be difficult for SKW 1 to qualify for the National League A playoffs. SFC 2 finished third, while CFC 1 were the group winner ahead of SFC 1.

Group B was dominated by CFC 2, while SKW 3 prevailed against CFC 3, and finished second in the group ahead of third team CFC.

In the U/16 category, SFC A collected the most points at home and overtook SKW A in the table. SFC B and SKW B took third and fourth place respectively. In the U/13 category, the guests of SKW A were unstoppable and secured the victory of the tournament.

The second SKW junior team finished in second place. SFC A, winners of the second round of the championship in Windhoek, had to settle for third place.

SFC 2’s Christian Knobloch was named the adult player of the day, while Emma Hess took home the youth division accolade. The fourth round of the Bank Windhoek Fistball League will take place on Saturday July 23 in Swakopmund.
