American Legion Auxiliary raises funds for veterans | News, Sports, Jobs
The American Legion Auxiliary held a garage sale on Sunday, December 12 at the American Legion Post. VA&R (Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation) president Kristin Petty-Brinkle said her project is still homeless veterans.
âI did a garage sale in June and it went so well that I did another one. What I did was rent the spaces for people to use and the money for the spaces goes to one of the homeless veterans charities that I choose, â Petty said.
Petty undertook two projects simultaneously, she said, the other was collecting toiletries for veterans. Since both projects were on-going, it made sense to do them on the same day.
Another collection of toiletries was sent by the Legion Auxiliary to the troops in the fall. The garage sale, she said, raised $ 400, which will go to Holidays for Heroes, the organization that will partner for the benefit of homeless veterans.
In June, Petty said the organization, which received the benefits, “Hearts and homes” informs him that they have finished collecting donations for the year.
âThe garage sale went very well. It’s our second, and everyone seems to like it. They are impatiently waiting for me to do it now â, Petty said.
There will be a meeting, Petty said, to determine the date of the next yard sale, which could be before the end of this season.
âI want to thank everyone for continuing to support all of my activities and events. I put everything in there and everyone is so gracious and so kind. They just come together – we’re an island family, that’s what we are. I always say we’re family, even in the American Legion. We do what we do to help veterans â, Petty said.
